Cinnamon ornaments

A cousin of salt dough, this version uses cinnamon and applesauce instead of flour and water — no baking, and it scents the whole house while it dries.

You'll need

• 1 cup ground cinnamon
• ¾ cup applesauce
• 2 tbsp. white glue
• Cookie cutters, a straw, ribbon

How to make them

1. Mix the cinnamon, applesauce and glue into a firm, workable dough (add a little more cinnamon if it's sticky).
2. Roll to about ¼ inch thick and cut into shapes; poke a hole near the top with a straw.
3. Air-dry on a wire rack for 2–3 days, flipping once, until firm all the way through.
4. Thread with ribbon and hang — no sealant needed, the scent lasts for a season or more.
