The treat "visions of sugar plums" refers to in the classic poem weren't plums at all — they were rolled, spiced dried fruit and nut confections, sugared on the outside.
You'll need
1 cup dried dates, pitted
1 cup dried apricots
½ cup walnuts or pecans
½ tsp. cinnamon; granulated sugar for rolling
How to make them
Pulse the dates, apricots, nuts and cinnamon in a food processor until finely chopped and holding together.
Roll into small balls.
Roll each ball in granulated sugar to coat.
Store in an airtight container; they keep for a couple of weeks.
