Christmas Craft · 40 minutes + freezing
Tin can luminaries
An old craft with a simple trick: freezing water inside the can lets you punch a pattern without denting it.
You'll need
- Clean, label-free tin cans
- A hammer and nail
- Water, and a freezer
- Battery tea lights
How to make them
- Fill each can with water and freeze solid, at least a few hours.
- Sketch or freehand a simple pattern (stars, dots, a snowflake) onto the frozen can.
- Punch along the pattern with a hammer and nail, working carefully.
- Let the ice melt, dry the can, and place a battery tea light inside.
